Mamafest's second annual snowboarding and music festival was held at Stevens Pass Resort on March 9th, 2002. Our efforts resulted in nearly $5,000 raised for breast cancer research, which was donated to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the National Boarding for Breast Cancer Foundation. Some of Seattle’s best musical talent showed up to punk out, rock hard and stoke out the crowd with the help of American Music, who donated the sound system for the day. The bands included Stamad, Honey Tongue, Vendetta Red, Lesliwood and 3 Deuces. Though there was plenty of riding happening, while enjoying the shows people also had a chance to demo product all day from Salomon, K2, Option, Nitro, Vans, Burton, Santa Cruz, Chorus and M3.

Our individual pledge drive was sponsored by NorthWest Board Sports and raised over $1600. Those who worked hard and raised the most dollar-amount individually were rewarded with new snowboards. We also had a raffle, which raised upwards of $3000!

The raffle prizes were donated by Experience Music Project, Merrell, K2, Northwest Board Sports, REI, Burly Girls, Salomon, the Sports Rack, Zumiez, Shiseido, 686, Lib Tech and Gnu, Shurgard, Chorus and Option. Thanks guys!

Supporters of all ages and interests came out for this event – the more daring were clad in bikinis, though the concensus was definitely for traditional winter clothing.

Whether someone won prizes from the raffle, got some time on a demo board or rocked out to a local band, everyone had a great attitude and a smile on their face to go with it. Needless to say, a smashing time was had by all.

After the event, the volunteers headed down to the Whistling Post in Skykomish for an appreciation party in their honor. There, they found DJ Cameron flooring the crowd on the wheels of steel while our own founder, Carolyn and some other Skykomish locals worked the room with their MC-ing abilities. Cameron's store, Platinum Records in Seattle, donated all the DJ gear for us. Not only that, but Salomon and Grazie's Restaurant kicked down yet more prizes and delicious grub for us all to enjoy.

Mamafest continues its pledge to create an atmosphere dedicated to the Northwest, for the Northwest, through focusing on music that represents the Northwest scene.

Most importantly, the money we generate is directly donated to other local non-profits organizations and our inspiration: BBC (Boarding for Breast Cancer).
